Privacy policy

GrapeMap is a free guide to the Cape Winelands, made by an independent developer in South Africa. This page says exactly what the app collects, why, and how to get rid of it.

What we collect, and why

• Your Google account basics. Name, email address and profile picture, when you choose to sign in. Used to create your account and to show you to friends you connect with. Browsing the map needs no account at all.
• What you do in the app. Farms you mark visited, star ratings and reviews, private notes, wishlists, feature votes, and friend connections. This is the product: it exists so your passport, lists and friends work.
• Usage events. Anonymous-by-default activity (a visit was logged, a vote was cast) used to understand how the app is doing. Raw events expire automatically within 35 days; only identity-free totals are kept.
• A push token. Only if you allow notifications on the mobile app, so your phone can receive them. Stored per device, removed on sign-out.

What we don't do

• No ads, no ad tracking, and nothing is ever sold or shared with other companies.
• Your location never leaves your device. The "find me" button positions the map locally.
• Private notes are private: only you can ever read them. Reviews and visited farms are visible only to friends you have accepted.

Where it lives

Data is stored with Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Authentication), encrypted in transit. Firebase acts as our processor; no other third party receives your data.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account and everything linked to it yourself, at any time, from the app or this website. See how to delete your account. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
